Safety First

At Oakes and Terry we believe that the safety of our employees and the public is a prime focus of the business. We do not compromise safety in any way with extra emphasis being taken when working at height. We comply with all relevant H&S legislation but try to do more to ensure that there are no accidents at work. We aim for, and do achieve zero accidents at work. Oakes and Terry believe that we have a responsibility to our staff, and the public to ensure that our operations do not place anyone or anything in undue risk.

We believe our attitude to H&S is important for both customers and staff. We provide leadership in H&S by setting examples of good practice. Our regular management inspections include not only quality items but also H&S. We are accredited by third party schemes including SAFEcontractor and ContractorPlus as we believe this is important to our business. We undertake risk assessments and from these derive safe working procedures. We monitor our H&S performance on a regular basis.

The induction of new staff includes a large element of H&S training which is then monitored by the local supervisor. We review training requirements for all staff levels and where necessary our operators are trained by third parties in the use of specific equipment eg cradles and mobile elevated work platforms.The Director that takes the lead in H&S matters has the IOSHH Managing Safely Qualification.

Unlike, most companies we undertake proactive H&S spot checks to support our approach to Continuous Improvement. These are done on-site and may be undertaken in conjunction with the customer, employee or alone by a management representative. We use the observations to proactively improve our H&S performance.

We also undertake regular checks of equipment for their continued compliance eg ladders, vehicles, harnesses, electrical equipment etc.

We have invested considerably in purchasing new equipment to remove risk from our activities and to make them inherently safer.

There are certain things that you can take for granted with Oakes and Terry such as the fact that we have not only the minimum statutory insurance policies in place but we have extended them to cover product supply as well.
